MUST-HAVES FOR EVERY FURKID: GADGETS FOR COMFORT AND WELL-BEING
The holidays are just around the corner and we have to make sure that our furkid’s comfort is not compromised, especially if they are afraid of loud noises like thunder or fireworks. This week, my fellow devoted fur moms (Anna, Kat, and Lani) share their list of essential accessories.
Water Bottle with Stand and Bowl. It is essential that our furkids have access to clean water all the time and personally I prefer this type of water bottle because the water is kept clean and free from contamination.
Bed, preferably machine washable, or one that comes with a slipcover. Most furkids love these beds for it is their safe haven inside the home and it is also good to train them to stay on their bed for longer periods of time when they need to be quiet or when we are busy or have guests. For Goliath, he stays comfortably on his bed with a couple of his toys while his furmom works on her cakes.
Calming Coat since most furkids are afraid of thunder or fireworks, these coats come in handy. Bailey even has Pet Calm Drops and Thundershirt Dog Anxiety Jacket: Bailey is deathly afraid of thunder and firecrackers so his humans give him these homeopathic drops and we make him wear this jacket to calm him down (especially useful every New Year’s Eve). Surprisingly it works! The drops can also be used if your dog fears car rides, the vet, anything that’s stressful for them.
In our tropical country, the heat and humidity can be unbearable specially if your furkid has long fur or has a double coat! Personally, I prefer a cooling coat because Chowee tends to move around a lot unlike most furkids who can stay on a mat for long periods. This has some gel like substance inside the quilt all you need to do is soak it in water for a few minutes then squeeze out excess water or hang to dry for another few minutes till the water no longer drips. You’ll notice that the coat becomes cold to the touch and can stay cold for practically the whole day! I also put his harness over the coat to keep it in place.
For Bailey and Lumi, furmom Lani prefers the Coolaroo Elevated Pet Bed. This is made of a sturdy material that allows the air to circulate so it’s perfect for our climate. It can also be used outdoors.
Other furkids like Lizzie prefer the cooling mat with stand because she loves lounging outdoors.
Anti-bite Duck Silicon Muzzle: Lumi really hates getting injections or having her nails cut to the point that she sometimes nips or bites. And Lani feels that it’s her responsibility to make sure that the groomer or vet assistant doesn’t get hurt. Lani doesn’t want Lumi to look like a dog “criminal” or look like Hannibal Lecter if Lumi wears a traditional muzzle. So this is a cute alternative and since it’s made of silicon it’s easy to clean.
Pet Bolster Seat: Lumi used to freak out during car rides until they realized that it was because she couldn’t see out the window since she’s so small. So they got her a bolster seat and now she loves being in the car and she even uses it as a bed when she gets sleepy during the ride.
Stroller for those of you who love to bring your furkids to the mall. Most malls require dogs to be carried or in a bag/stroller. Lizzie has 4 strollers & 3 of them are in her furmom’s favorite color, which is Pink! For Lizzie, a stroller doubles as a crate that is a safe haven for her & where she remains settled.
Happening today! Hope you can drop by to join the fun & games. It is open to the public.
